20130407-224248.jpgRomsey u12 boys travelled to Andover for the final fixture of the season. A win or a draw would see them crowned champions of their division. A loss would see Andover snatch the title.
As a result of various holidays and sudden illnesses the Romsey team travelled with a bare 11 and were missing a number of regular players.
The young players all stepped up though and performed with amazing effort and fortitude to battle all the way to a nail biting 0-0 draw.
All of the team played superbly. Hal Cross was excellent in goal, marshalling his defence with load calling. The back four of Callum Robertson, George Forgan, Alex Mills and Ben Whittaker broke down the Andover attacks and fed the ball forward. Jamie Sanderson and Harry Croft-Baker maintained excellent width, driving forward with great confidence. The central midfield partnership of guest star Anna Poller and player of the match Tom Croft-Baker drove the team forward, distributing the ball brilliantly and tackling valiantly. The front pair of Morgan Robertson and Finbar Ditchfield were constantly a threat and were very unlucky not to secure a goal.
On the final whistle both teams were exhausted but also delighted to have taken part induce an exciting, fair but extremely competitive fixture. Romsey were the happier side though and celebrated with confirmation of their division winning performance.
