Romsey played their first U16 game for over a month keen to learn from some of the training that had been practising and it paid dividends against a young Salisbury side.

The game started evenly with Salisbury having more possession and pushing to get in to the Romsey D, but Nick Buck playing in front of the back three seemed to be able to read every play and made several key interceptions. Ian Wilson, James Manning and Hugh Davidson then started to command the Romsey back line and build moves through the midfield.

Romsey pushed to take advantage and had several shots wide, and forced three penalty corners. In the 26th minute and with Romsey on top a penalty corner move was played back to Sam Barcia from Jack Murray and he coolly passed the ball in to goal to give Romsey a 1-0 halftime lead.

Salisbury came out of the blocks quickest in the second period and with two minutes equalised with a powerful shot inside the post from a penalty corner of their own.

Romsey then raised their game, Chris Harwood on the left and Toby Hill on the right spread the play and Romsey scored two goals in quick succession, first Ben Ellis was on hand to shoot in at the second attempt after the Salisbury Goalkeeper saved his first effort, and then David Forgan scored 90 seconds later following a good move to put Romsey 3-1 up.

Salisbury forced their way back in to the game and won a penalty stroke a few minutes later, Hal Cross who is only 12 stood firm and pulled off a great save to keep the two goal cushion. Then soon after he pushed a goal bound aerial shot around the post with his hands.

Romsey sealed the match with 12 minutes to go, Barcia got his second of the match with an interception in the centre of the pitch and ran towards the Salisbury goal before drilling a firm shot in the corner, and then a move between Harwood, Ellis and Forgan ended with Forgan scoring his second of the match.

Salisbury pulled back a late consolation, but Romsey were good for their 5 – 2 win.
