Ladies 1s (3) vs (3) Havant 2s

Scorers: Jenner, Hutchins(2)

Romsey started strongly with a goal in the first 2 minutes. A sustained attack up the right culminates in Emily Bradshaw slipping the ball under her shoulder to Erica Jenner who deftly slipped the ball into the right hand corner.

Twelve minutes in, and a lucky goal from Havant looped high around the D and eventually ended up in the goal.

Romsey replied swiftly, after Bradshaw pounced on a dithering defender, and working with Rosie Bishop, won a short corner. The resulting corner was converted with well worked shot to the post from Jenner, where Becky Hutchins smoothly converted to take the lead.

The visitors were not to be deterred and won a few shorts of their own. Captain Liz Forbes stopped the straight strike, and player of the match Selena Cox made an epic save as the ball was fired in low to the right corner.

Gemma Simpson in the middle move the ball well, distributing around the pitch.

Second half saw Romsey increase their lead, with some great work up the left and a slick 1-2 between Amy Edwards and Hutchins in the D to rip the visitors defence apart for Hutchins to grab her second goal.

To their credit, Havant did not give up and proceeded to throw everything at the game. Forbes and Jane Palmer at the back foiled several attacks to keep the center-forward under control. Cox continued to save from further short corners, stretching to save on her right hand corner, but the pressure was building.

Havant had the majority of possession in the second half, and kept Romsey pinned down in their own half. Eventually, the pressure paid off for the visitors as they pulled one back from an unfortunate deflection off a defenders stick.

Romsey tried to start some attacks, and got out of their half a few times after some good interlinking play from Caitlin Hogan-Lloyd and Kate Olingschlaeger, but it wasn’t’ enough, and Havant found an equaliser late in the game to make the score 3-3.

Although Romsey were frustrated on letting the game slip away, much satisfaction was taken from the quality of the hockey the team played during the first half. Romsey now move up to 7th position in Hampshire Division 1.
