Ladies 3s (2) vs (4) Fareham 3s

Scorers: Gladstone, Cryne

The Ladies 3s put in a battling performance in losing out narrowly to the runaway league leaders Fareham 3s. Both teams played high-quality, passing hockey throughout and the goalkeepers at both ends were kept busy.

Romsey started the game with a defensive approach to try to contain a Fareham team that are averaging 6 goals a game this season.

Hayley Tucknott and Maree Welch marshalled the defence well and made several important interventions, while Emily Bradshaw in the Romsey goal kept the team in the game with a string of excellent saves.

However, eventually the pressure told and Fareham took the lead midway through the first half with a flicked shot from a short corner.

Romsey were not to be overwhelmed, and struck back when Cat Gladstone ran onto an excellent pass from Ange Cryne to score past the advancing Fareham ‘keeper.

Ange Cryne then gave Romsey an unexpected 2-1 lead at half-time with a powerful flicked shot from the top of the D.

While the team continued to perform well and create chances, Fareham’s continued pressure eventually told and they were able to score 3 more times in the second half to secure the game. Despite the defeat, this was a great performance by the whole team.
