Romsey U10 Girls were at Brockenhurst on Sunday for the In 2 Hockey 7 a-side girls tournament.
Their first game of the morning was against a strong Haslemere side who scored 2 goals in the first half, the Romsey team then came back after half time with a goal scored by a persistent Alice Appleton. Daisy Richardson was kept busy in goal and made some cracking saves with the final score being 3-1 to Haslemere.
Next up was Trojans and with consistent tackling from Ellie Hanslip and Florence Robinson in midfield, a short corner was given to enable Catherine Clarke to set up a great ball which was finished off by Alice Appleton, the final score being 2-0 to Romsey due to the second goal being an own goal!
The third match was Winchester and the great combination of Tara Alavi and Naeve Pountney in defence kept the opposition at bay, with Lucy Taylor-Blake and Marianne Lawson putting in good passes in midfield enabling Catherine Clarke to score the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for Romsey.
The last game of the morning was against Andover who scored 2 goals early on in the first half and although Romsey had the majority of the play in the second half, they were unlucky not to score leaving Andover with a 2-0 win.
Overall the girls came 3rd and just missed out on qualifying for the next round but should all feel massively proud of themselves for the quality of the hockey played and for their incredible attitude and enthusiasm and a special mention has to go to Daisy Richardson, who having never trained as a goalie before volunteered and was absolutely fearless throughout, well done Daisy!!
