Romsey Hockey Club created another milestone in their Club of history on 25th October, as the Club put out a Men’s 4th XI for the first time.

Romsey welcomed Fleet & Ewshott from Hampshire Division 10, and both sides had evenly balanced teams of youth and experienced players.

Romsey started the stronger, with Sam Barcia playing his first game since a broken hand injury causing immediate in roads in to the Fleet defence.

He played in both Ben Manning & Finn Jones as Romsey dominated early possession, and then played a killer pass to David Forgan who neatly beat the advancing keeper to put Romsey 1-0 up and score the first ever 4th XI goal.

Romsey’s forward line continued to create chances, this time Gus Reid and Nick Mason combined only for Mason to see his shot go wide. Mason then set up Jake Rowland who was having a great game beating players and then playing off the ball with key passes.

Romsey’s defence was troubled more as the half went on and the defensive stalwarts of Dave Andrews and Dave Loescher were called in to action, and they supported youngsters Alex Mills and Oliver Bryant as the four created a strong line in front of 14 year old Hal Cross in goal.

The young defenders and goal keeper played brilliantly as they kept Fleet & Ewshott at bay until the last minute of the half when the Fleet attacker got a lucky break with the ball and it squirmed inside the post.

The second half was more balanced and both sides created chances, Mason and Forgan had some good link up play, and Colin Harwood was unlucky bringing an amazing save from the young Fleet keeper when his shot on the volley was pushed round the post when it looked like a goal for sure.

Hal Cross, Mills, Bryant, Andrews and Loescher played superbly again to ensure Romsey conceded no more goals and in the end a draw was a fair result in a very hard fought game.
