In a game most definitely of two halves Romsey earned all three points, although will wonder how they made it so difficult for themselves.

Romsey started brightly. Greig Stewart crossed for Colin Harwood, but he pushed his reverse stick push wide. The James Croft-Baker played a sideline in Harwood touched it on to Jacob Arney but the keeper smothered his effort.

Rob Kerr played a number of fine passes to split the Winchester defence, but Romsey couldn’t find the final touch.

Then a long ball found Winchester three on two and they won a penalty corner. A two pass move from the corner resulted in Winchester taking the lead against the run of play with keeper Adam Sankey having no chance.

This did spur Winchester on, and they again played a long ball, overloaded the Romsey defence with skipper Stuart Robertson outnumbered at the back and as Dave Andrews came back to cover a slip to the far post saw Winchester double their lead.

Jim Ponsford and Kerr dropped deeper and Ben Parker moved closer to Robertson but Romsey were now on the back foot and a penalty corner on the stroke of half time was converted off of Sankey to see Romsey finish the half 0-3 down.

A tactical switch a half time moved Ponsford in to the back four and this was instrumental in a second half which Romsey dominated. James Boggis and Stewart combined for Neil Strong to pull a goal back in the half, and Strong grabbed a second soon after to reduce the arrears to one.

Then the move of the game saw Sankey clear the ball to Parker, he plalyed it to Harwood who passed it down the line to Arney to run in to the circle, as the keeper advanced Carl Hendy took over shot past the keep for 3-3.

Winchester rallied and forced a number of penalty corners as they tried to restore their lead, but as they tired and Romsey got stronger Romsey won a penalty corner of their own. The ball came out of the circle to Rob Kerr, as his intial shot was blocked he lifted the ball in to the net for Romseys 4th and the winner in a 4-3 comeback.
