Feeling buoyant after their opening game Romsey travelled through the storm to face Yateley, their first foray into the north this season.

Romsey started brightly and quickly took the lead when Erica Jenner latched onto the ball at the top of the D and sent a reverse stick shot towards the keeper. The defenders, either foxed by the bounce or dazed by Jenner’s new shoes failed to react and Jade Phillips glided in to gracefully slide the ball home.
Having taken the lead Romsey resolved to work hard off the ball and keep their press tight subduing any attempt at redemption by Yateley, and the pressure paid off with Emma Beeching intercepting a pass and bursting clear of the Yateley defence. The keeper saved and Romsey couldn’t capitalise on the rebound to extend their advantage.
Soon after this Captain Jenner found herself in the sin bin following a rash challenge on the halfway line. Yateley tried to push their numerical advantage but Romsey defence held them out with player of the match Laura Kemp making several crucial saves to go into the break 1-0 up.
The second half saw the umpires practising their card tricks with Emily Slade picking up a green then a yellow. Sophie Hurley making her first team debut also picked up a yellow, before Jenner suffering with FOMO joined in and sat off the last five minutes on a yellow card.
Romsey played most of the second half with 10 on the pitch resulting in several reshuffles with the ever flexible Rebecca Hutchins slotting into defence.
Outstanding defensive work by Romsey ensured that they kept their lead until the final whistle, showing a newfound grit and resilience that they were lacking last season, building on their confidence with two wins from two.
