Romsey 4’s Reverse the Odds (and the Stick!)

Romsey 4’s arrived at Trojans with a few nerves and more than a little doubt about whether we could pull it off – despite having beaten them before. Armed with determination and ibuprofen, it didn’t take long to remind ourselves that we had the quality to get the job done.

The first goal came in the opening half when Emma East neatly finished from a short corner, set up by Hannah’s sharp pass. Kirsty soon made it two with a cool strike, thanks to some slick work from captain Coops.

In the second half, Charlotte pulled out the party trick – a brilliant reverse-stick finish – again assisted by Coops – to put Romsey firmly in control. Trojans fought back late in the game, pulling two goals through Lucy, their county-level star, and number 88, both relied on heavily for their breakaways. Despite the late pressure, Romsey held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

At the back, Emma Jones was immense: marking her opponent out of the game and living up to her new title of “The Wall.” Jo also picked up deserved votes for her tireless work in defence. Sarah S and Charlotte F tore up the wings with storming runs that had Trojans scrambling to keep up.

Debut-of-the-season shout-outs go to Coops, Jelly, and Lucy, who slotted in seamlessly. And although Trojans sneaked in a few ringers after their 4’s side pulled out, Romsey stayed sharp, stayed united, and came away with the win.

Get well soon to Georgie, and best wishes to Penny for a quick recovery before tomorrow’s game. Post-match recovery was topped off in style with a warming curry, fresh coriander, and chilli – the taste of victory!
