Ladies 1s beat Trojans 3s in a heated match

Trojans travelled to Romsey’s new home pitch, Ganger Farm, on a cold, dark Thursday night.

Romsey were full of energy from the get go and made several early attacking runs up the pitch. Romsey were rewarded with an early goal in the 8th minute. Following a powerful strike in the D from Lucy Lewis, 1-0.

Throughout the game, Romsey kept possession and worked as a team. A second goal was soon scored by Emily Williams, 2-0.

With Trojans becoming frustrated by Romsey’s continued pressure, the game turned more physical for large parts of the game. After several warnings, Trojans were carded, and a player sent off.

After half time, Trojans were re energised and fought back, resulting in them scoring and taking the game to 2-1.

Attacking play from Trojans was intercepted on several occasions by player of the match, Bethan Knights.

A Romsey foot in the D awarded Trojans with a penalty corner, which they scored, bringing the tense game to 2-2.

With more Romsey players being fouled, the game was briefly halted so the umpires could raise their concerns.

In the final minutes of the game, Romsey were brought down in the D, rewarding Romsey with a penalty flick. Erica Jenner stepped up and calmly guided the ball into the goal. Romsey was jubilant! The training, formation and focussed team effort was rewarded with 3 points after Romsey’s 3-2 win.

Isle of Wight Vs Romsey Ladies 1st XI

It was a 7am meet for Romsey Hockey Club Ladies 1s, in their first match of the season. The ferry over to the Isle of Wight enhanced the team bonding and excitement of finally playing again.

On the pitch, Romsey started strong with their first goal in the 11th minute. The ball was carried up the line by wing back (and captain) Beeching, to Adams, who passed it from the goal line into the D. I Ackerman picked up the ball and fired it forcefully into the back of the goal. Not bad for I Ackerman’s debut match!

The second goal followed 6 minutes later when a short corner was won by Romsey. Olingschlaeger ejected to C Jones (Vice captain), who took a straight strike from the top of the D, direct into the right-hand corner.

RHC were feeling energised by a 0-2 lead, but Isle of Wight fought back and were awarded a P-flick shortly after. Goalkeeper Reilly stood tall and dominant in the goal causing Isle of Wight to send the ball over the goal.

Isle of Wight made a fast break and hit a reverse shot from the top of the D. It was a great goal making the score 1-2.  Romsey had lots of possession and great runs, with Jenner and Lewis controlling the middle of the pitch.

As Romsey were tiring, Isle of Wight were awarded a short corner, which enabled them to equalise before half time, 2-2.

Half time allowed Romsey to regroup and return to the pitch with vigour. Within the first few minutes we were in Isle of Wights D and C Ackerman was unlucky not to get a goal from her quick thinking, attacking play. Humphreys worked the ball round the D and C Jones (player of the match) scored her second goal of the game, to bring the game to 2-3.

Isle of Wight were awarded several short corners, but the defence were fantastic with an amazing block tackle from Dixon, the speed of J Jones and leadership by CollinsBraund was moving off the ball throughout to ensure a pass was always on.

Romsey held the lead to win the first game of the season.

Manager Cooper was proud of the whole team and they are of him. RHC Ladies 1s are looking forward to their first home match at Ganger Farm at 10:30am on Saturday 1st October.

L1s share 9 goals with Hamble

Romsey Ladies 1s played away at Hamble in a 9 goal thriller!

Hamble took an early lead, but Romsey responded with an excellent counterattack using their pace to score in the 7th minute with a goal from Olingschlaeger, assisted by Player of the Match: Jenner.

Soon after, Jenner passed to Olingschlaeger, who took it round two defenders before having a shot on goal. Hamble’s goalkeeper made a great save but Williams was quick to respond with a rebound shot and scored at an acute angle. A perfect finish, which gave Romsey a 1-2 lead.

Jenner scored Romsey’s third goal, from a rebound shot from Olingschlaeger, who turned over the ball from a Hamble free hit. Romsey’s defensive unit made some great tackles but, Hamble came back to score. Romsey were winning 2-3 at the half time break.

In the second half, Hamble scored 2 early goals to take a 4-3 lead. With the fight still on and Romsey determined to take home 3 points the whole team dug deep and continued with their attacking play. Not to be beaten, Romsey took a 4-5 lead after scoring two goals in close succession.

Katie R scored her first goal for Romsey Ladies 1s managing to get on the end of a hit from Drake. Romsey won a short corner, which Jenner scored from a straight strike. Jenner’s rarely seen goal celebration showed how much a win meant to Romsey.

Hamble kept on the attack but Romsey’s defence held strong despite multiple short corners being awarded to Hamble in the dying minutes of the game.

Today was a triumphant win for Romsey, a fantastic team performance.

L1s focus on beating Andover

Romsey Vs Andover

(Result 2:0)

On Saturday 10th October, a very focused Romsey Ladies 1s hosted Andover at home.

Romsey started the match on the back foot with heavy dominant play from an energised Andover.Despite Romsey conceding a few short corners, in quick succession, no goals were conceded by Romsey, thanks to the composure of the defense: Orak, Shoebridge, Jones, Slade and Braund.

A well organised and confident Romsey then proceeded to dominant the game. Fantastic movement off the ball and passages of play between Knights, Collins and Beeching led to Romsey winning one of several short corners. From Collins’ powerful push, Jenner calmly lifted the ball into the corner and scored her well-deserved first goal of the season.

After a positive half time team talk, Romsey were eager for more goals. The 2nd goal came from Jenner’s formidable pass into the D, which Olingschlaeger deflected past their goalkeeper. Great goal!

Throughout the match Romsey played intelligently, moving the ball well and changing the channel to make more meaningful attacks.

Consistant and relentless attacks came from Bouchard, Brown and Dunford, earning Dunford ‘player of the match’.

Everyone went above and beyond and Luckhurst’s rapid reactions in goal enabled Romsey to keep a clean sheet.

A well-earned 3 points for a supportive and friendly team on and off the pitch. Roll on next Saturday!

Ladies 1s finish strong

Romsey 3 – Southampton 1
Romsey hosted Southampton 2xi in their last game before the Christmas break. Romsey started the game very slowly, making lots of unforced mistakes which eventually gifted Southampton the opportunity to go 1-0 up before 10 minutes had passed. As they gradually woke up, Romsey began to work their way out of the Southampton press and were kept in the game by GK Antonia Luckhurst who made some great saves to prevent the visitors going further ahead.
A break out of defence by Emily Dixon, in which she sent a long pass up the pitch to Emma Beeching who dodged the Southampton GK giving Romsey the equalising chance they needed which Erica Jenner calmly placed into the goal. After a rousing half time talk, Romsey took more control of the game and started to create opportunities with the team units linking up and starting to play as a team, something they struggled to do in the first half. Romsey won a short corner which was superbly hit into the bottom corner by Stella Bendoni.
The final 10 minutes of the game saw Romsey, in contrast to the opening 10 minutes, play some of the best hockey of the game. The victory was sealed after Bethan knights made a great pass up the pitch which found Sarah McLeod up front. She worked hard to prevent it going off the back line and sent a piercing cross into the D for a fast arriving Laura Hunter to convert with a reverse stick goal at close range. Romsey go into the Christmas break 8th in the league on 13 points.

L1s Win v Basingstoke

Romsey were looking to put their lacklustre performance of 2 weeks ago behind them, and came out of the blocks with grim determination to keep possession and capitalise on their chances.
This rediscovered attitude paid off early in the first half, when Romsey took the lead, as a Bobs Cooper shot rebounded from the goalie and Emma Beeching volleyed the ball into the net in mid air.
Keeping the pressure on Basingstoke for the rest of the half, Romsey consolidated their lead with Erica Jenner launching a fantastic long range pass from defence into the D, finding man of the match Kate Olingschlaeger, whose deft one touch shot found the goal.
Coach Dave Miles’ half time talk reminded Romsey to keep hold of the ball and control the game, and Basingstoke found it hard to break through the midfield. Despite having several short corners to defend, Romsey kept a clean sheet, glad to get back to winning ways.

L1s return to winning ways

Romsey Ladies 1XI looked to return to winning ways after losses the last 2 weeks. They travelled to Havant who always provided tough opposition.
Romsey started well, placing Havant under some early pressure.
Romsey then had a flurry of short corners, although they were unable to convert any of their chances. Romsey then tried a different combination on the next short corner they were awarded – the ball was injected by Robyn C, and picked by Stella B at the top of the D. She hit the ball, which deflected off the defenders stick, and was then picked up off the baseline by Gemma Brown and passed back to Robyn C who slotted it passed the Havant keeper. The score was 1-0 at half time.
Romsey looked a bit shakey at the beginning of the second half, feeling the pressure of only having a one goal cushion. The defensive unit of Emily Slade, Gigi H, Jen Metcalfe and Player of the game Jess Preece worked tirelessly at the back, ensuring that any Havant attacks were quickly wiped out, distributing the ball well to the midfielders who looked to link up with the forwards. Romsey worked hard and continued to put the Havant defence under pressure. Romsey had a few shots on goal which were saved by the Havant keeper and defence. After a goal line scramble with Havant trying to clear the ball away, and Romsey trying to put the ball into the goal, Captain Kate Olingschlaeger saw an opportunity and calmly lifted the ball up over the goal keeper who was down on the floor trying to block the way to goal.
Romsey continued to push for a 3rd goal, not settling for just a 2-0 win. Emma Beeching passed the ball down the line to Bethan Knights who then passed to Kate Olingschlaeger. Possession was then lost but won back. The ball was passed to Robyn C who was on the 25m line, who then passed it into Zoe H who carried the ball into the D and hit into the bottom corner past the Havant keeper. The final score was 3-0 to Romsey. Romsey host Fareham in next weeks game.

Romsey Ladies 1s vs Southampton 2s

Romsey 1s made it 8 wins from 10 matches with a hard fought win over Southampton 2s. They took the lead early in the first half as Bethan Knight fired a searching pass to find Kate Olingschlaeger in the circle. Her cross found Erica Jenner whose shot on goal was helped over the line by Emma Beeching.

Having held this lead over the half time break, Romsey piled on the pressure in the second half with the majority of the game being played in Southampton’s half. An Abby James run from midfield made the second goal when her forward pass found Kate in front of the keeper, and she found the net with a clever deflection on her reverse stick.

The last quarter of an hour saw Romsey giving away too much possession, allowing Southampton to open their scoring from a well worked short corner.

For Romsey, it wasn’t always pretty, but they’ll take another 3 points, and have climbed to joint second in the league.

Next week’s match will be nail biter, playing New Forest who share their second place.
