U16 Girls – Superb in the Sun!

The under 16 girls played Winchester in glorious sunshine on Sunday, with both teams sporting some really strong players the game was played at a high intensity and the first half saw chances at both ends and Ellie in the Romsey goal made some excellent saves.

Romsey were the clinical side and Isla scored from a penalty corner to give Romsey the lead at the break.

The second half saw Romsey strengthen their grip on the game with goals from Harriet and Tilly. Winchester had been a menace all game going forward but excellent defending from Immi, Hannah, Lucy, Eliza and Izzie kept them at bay brilliantly.

Romsey won 3-0 after a superb team performance which takes them to the top of the league. Well done girls!

Ladies 1s beat Trojans 3s in a heated match

Trojans travelled to Romsey’s new home pitch, Ganger Farm, on a cold, dark Thursday night.

Romsey were full of energy from the get go and made several early attacking runs up the pitch. Romsey were rewarded with an early goal in the 8th minute. Following a powerful strike in the D from Lucy Lewis, 1-0.

Throughout the game, Romsey kept possession and worked as a team. A second goal was soon scored by Emily Williams, 2-0.

With Trojans becoming frustrated by Romsey’s continued pressure, the game turned more physical for large parts of the game. After several warnings, Trojans were carded, and a player sent off.

After half time, Trojans were re energised and fought back, resulting in them scoring and taking the game to 2-1.

Attacking play from Trojans was intercepted on several occasions by player of the match, Bethan Knights.

A Romsey foot in the D awarded Trojans with a penalty corner, which they scored, bringing the tense game to 2-2.

With more Romsey players being fouled, the game was briefly halted so the umpires could raise their concerns.

In the final minutes of the game, Romsey were brought down in the D, rewarding Romsey with a penalty flick. Erica Jenner stepped up and calmly guided the ball into the goal. Romsey was jubilant! The training, formation and focussed team effort was rewarded with 3 points after Romsey’s 3-2 win.

Romsey BU12s 1s and 2s  impress at home!

Romsey 1s were unbeaten winning 7-0 against Trojans 2s and 6-0 against New Forest.

What a great morning to be playing hockey! Romsey 1s demonstrated how beautiful a game of hockey is to watch when the ball is passed from player to player and then into the back of the goal.  They won both of their games without conceding a goal from the opposition.  Strong defending from Stanley G and Noah, strong passes by everyone and excellent goals from Zach, Stanley K and Henry and Jake.  Well played everyone.

Romsey 2s lost 1 and won 1.  8-0 loss to Bournemouth Tigers and 4-2 win against Southampton

It was tough match against Bournemouth Tigers but they battled hard.  There were some fabulous saves from William and a cracking stop from Guilio to keep the score line down. They did not let the loss get them down and game back really strong in thier second match.  Henry played well stopping a number of balls getting into thier D, Ruben’s stick work impressed us all, Ben stayed strong on the wing and Isaac and Guilio scored 2 excellent goals each. Sam and Ollie played really well for thier first ever matches! Well played everyone.

The coaches even earn’t some brownie points by remembering to take team photos

Romsey 3s bag 3 points!

Romsey looked to gain revenge for a 3-1 away defeat 3 months ago, when they cub ended twice in the final minutes in the home fixture at Ganger Farm.

Romsey started brightly and Tom W combined with debutant Shaun Coote to play in Jamie Bundy down the right early on which set a positive pattern of play.

Bundy found himself able to shoot, but his effort went narrowly wide.

Martin S-S then combined with Richard Austin to allow Bundy another chance but it was cleared away.

With the home side on top captain Colin Harwood found himself in the circle and his shot was smothered by the keeper but as the keeper looked to clear the ball it ran away from him and in to the goal and over the line by the post it give Romsey a 1-0 lead.

New Forest pushed forward try and recover but Rob Cav, Simeon Field and Freddie OH all got to opposition passes first to clear any danger.

Then Romsey created the move of the match with Pete OH playing the ball to Tom W, he passed to Chris Harwood down the left and gave the ball to Simpson-Scott to scream a pass to Harwood at the top of the circle, rather than stop and shoot, Harwood deftly passed the ball first time to Man of The Match Jamie Bundy on the right of the circle who controlled the ball and smashed it inside the far boast to double Romsey’s lead, which is at remained at Half time.

The second half saw New Forest up their game and a deflection from Pete OH saw a Forest chance bounce back off the post.
This saw Forest galvanise further and they equalised from a penalty corner which was almost blocked by Field but was returned in from the right for the Forest captain to pull one back.

Romsey needed their Keeper Nigel King to take control of the defence now and he did a king like job to keep Forest out with some fine saves, one which saw the ball loop up over and then cleared off the line by Pete OH.

Forest put the ball in the goal, after a penalty corner had been awarded and Romsey cleared the corner and then used the outlets of Bundy and Sean Rawles to relieve pressure and see the game out for a 2-1 win and 3 points.

GU14s Top of the Table Clash

A top of the table clash between Romsey and Andover delivered a high quality contest between 2 well-matched teams.

Romsey started the stronger with short corners in the 6th and 10th minute, the second of which saw their keeper keep the score level with a fine double save. 2 minutes later with Romsey attacking from the back- Anna passing to Elsie who passed to Grace. Ava running off the ball drew a defender away opening up a space for Grace to go through and score. Going 1-0 down only served to waken Andover who came charging back and a short corner 3 minutes later was injected to their star player who smashed a goal in from the edge of the D. Short corners were obviously going to be dangerous but at the next one just 3 minutes later Elsie came charging out and shut down the shot at goal. On their 3 rd short corner Andover moved the ball around the D and after a deflection off a brave Sophie, Andover found themselves 2-1 up after a 22 frantic minutes. There then followed a more attritional 10 minutes with plenty of strong tackles by Megan and Rosie, but the end of the second half produced a strong contender for Goal of the Season. Ava charged down the left hand side at lightening speed all the way to the byline where upon she stopped the ball, turned and beat the keeper at the far post. Probably the best goal ever scored by anyone from her family….. 2-2 at half time.

10 minutes into the second half and Camilla hit a brilliant pass from the left hand side of the pitch all the way over to Elsie on the right. Elsie passed to an off-balance Grace who regained her balance before striking with a reverse stick to see us go 3-2 up. 5 minutes later and another break from the back allowed Ava to once again charge down the left and into the D, passing to Grace who put us 4-2 up. With 10 mins still to go and Andover’s star striker finally managed to rid herself of a very determined Caitlin to dribble all the way from the half way line and score a fine solo goal. 4-3 and the nerves set in. With only 12 players and tired legs setting in, Grace had a fine solo effort of her own to again restore the 2 goal cushion but still there could be no relaxing. Fine tackles by Phoebe and Maya and a brilliant moment by Imogen taking the ball off their star player in the D meant that Romsey came out 5-3 winners in a really brilliant match.

GU14s a Game of Two Halves!

In beautiful sunshine but a cold wind the match started well;  although Southampton looked a good side from the start with some nice play, Romsey dominated the first half.

Grace scored the first goal easily and within the first few minutes.  In the next few minutes there was another goal, this time from Ava, after a lovely run up the right field from Elsie, crossed to Grace who assisted Ava.

There was good play in mid-field especially from Camilla and Ané in defence.  There was strong play however from the Southampton team especially in defence stopping several potential goals.

Southampton then scored a stunning goal across into the far corner, although Sophie’s foot almost got to it.  A third goal from Elsie luckily followed, with then more attempts at goal.  Grace passing to Beth, but not quite getting the ball in goal.

Grace then scored the next 2 goals and we felt pretty confident at the end of the first half.

However, the second half was a different game altogether with Southampton scoring 4 goals, one off a short corner, and Romsey having fewer attempts at goal with less success.  Sophie, our goalkeeper was kept busy.  The last of our goals was from Ava assisted by Megan to our relief, and then the last few minutes felt fairly nerve-wracking.  Luckily Romsey held the game, with some nice play in mid-field with Caitlin making good defensive and attacking shots and with Elsie’s speed and Clara running up the sidelines it was a good game to watch.  well done everyone.  A big thank you to our umpires, Simeon and Harriet Field.

Final score: 6-5 to Romsey

U16 Girls start the new year with WIN!

The U16 girls played Alton on Sunday at Ganger Farm and produced a super performance against a strong Alton team.

Harriet F scored after 5 minutes at the near post as a result of a penalty corner then a few minutes later Zoe P joined in with a smart finish to put Romsey two up!

The second half the girls went up a notch and some of the passing and moving was the best they have played all season. Inevitably the 3rd goal came scored byTilly D.

Alton scored a consolation goal towards the end but Romsey ran out 3-1 winners after a really controlled performance. Well done to all the girls some wonderful play and super team work. The result meant they leap frogged Alton and Petersfield to top their league.

U10s Battle the Elements

Through the rain and the cold the U10’s should be very proud of themselves for the hard fort battles they played on the pitch.  We have been working on moving the ball into space and passing to our own players prior to Christmas.

The U8s had a minis tournament on Sunday and had to endure wind, rain and hail!

Endure they did with some super performances winning more than they lost with some really nice hockey and working well in their teams. Well done to all the players for sticking to the task in very difficult conditions and all our amazing volunteers for making the tournament happen.
