Romsey U14 0 vs 7 Bournemouth U14

Romsey faced a strong Bournemouth side in the U14 Hampshire Cup, using three U12 players in their 12 man squad.

As the game started Bournemouth pushed forward and in only the second minute made a lifted shot at goal that glanced defender Toby Clemett on the side of the head. The shot was penalised but it meant Toby took no further part in the match and Romsey were down to the bare eleven.

A minute later and with Romsey re-organising Bournemouth took the lead when they dribbled in to the D and squared for the winger to slot home.

Arthur Barcia was in the action with Luke Hammond, Jake Rowland and Chris Harwood in the Romsey defence and the back four worked well together to restrict the number of openings.

Callum Darch made several fine saves demonstrating his JDC form and selection for the Mens 2nd XI in goal.

Romsey went two down after 9 minutes to a similar goal to the first but then became stronger and with Darch unbeatable in goal almost held out until half time, but were 3 0 down at the break when Oliver Bryant who was doing some sterling defending was unable to block a Bournemouth shot.

In the second half Romsey pushed forward, Ben Davidson, Matt Lincoln and Charlie Harrigan all linked up and Tom Flood twice was in on goal, but the Bournemouth U14 keeper who is also a regular in Bournemouth mens teams proved the winner.

Romsey pushed again and this time Ben Manning was fed by Jake Rowland, he fed Matt Lincoln who shot, but the rebound was cleared.

Bournemouth’s superiority saw them bag four further second half goals, but this Cup match was an excellent opportunity for Romsey to set themselves up for two more balanced league encounters with Trojans and City of Portsmouth before Christmas.
