Ladies 2s (3) vs Petersfield (0)

Scorers: Phillips, Appleby, Palmer

Romsey ladies 2nd XI were pitted against bottom of the table Petersfield in a match the home team had to win to stay out of the relegation zone.

It took just 5 minutes for Romsey to open the scoring with the young Jade Phillips confidently firing the ball into the net from top of the D to give Romsey the lead and helping to secure her player of the match.

Almost constant pressure by Romsey was eventually rewarded when Ella Palmer crossed the ball into the path of striker Georgia Appleby. The 13 year old calmly played the ball on her reverse stick, slipping it just wide of the keeper to rack up goal number two.

In confident form Romsey continued to keep possession and play some beautiful hockey, switching the play with ease and displaying great teamwork and their best hockey of the season so far.

With Romsey pushing forwarding it was only a matter of time before the overstretched Petersfield defense made another mistake. This time it was Romsey striker the Ella Palmer who pounced to flick a loose ball past the wrong footed keeper.

Despite dominating the game the score line remained 3-0 but a great performance by the whole team particularly center back Maree Welsh, and stand in goal keeper Jessica Lee meant this was a particularly sweet victory and keeps Romsey mid table.
