Ladies 2s (1) vs City of Portsmouth (4)

Scorers: Gilbert

Hopes of an early league win were high when Romsey’s Anna Gilbert opened the scoring in less than a minute. Romsey followed up with two more early strikes on goal, but it was pressure the team couldn’t sustain.

While Romsey failed to maintain their form and flowing game of the previous week, City of Portsmouth drew on their experience gained in the higher division last season to close Romsey down and play possession hockey.

City of Portsmouth punished Romsey’s failure to capitalise on early chances to go 3-1 up by half time. Romsey re-organised but were unable to make a comeback eventually losing 4-1.

Player of the match was debut goalkeeper Laura Kemp, who made a string of impressive saves.
