Ladies 3s (1) vs (1) Basingstoke 4s

Scorer: Gladstone

The Ladies 3s made a good start to the New Year with a well-deserved point at home to Basingstoke 4.

The team started brightly and slick passing lead to several promising attacks in the first half. However, the Basingstoke keeper was in fine form, saving a number of shots from Rachel Alexander, Cat Gladstone and Lesley Humphreys.

As the half wore on Basingstoke came into the game more and had several attacks themselves, but these were all well dealt with well by the solid Romsey defence.

Unfortunately, almost immediately after the restart the Romsey defence was finally undone, with Basingstoke crossing in from the right to score from close range.

Romsey continued to press and won two penalty corners but could not convert them. Then with 5 minutes to go Maree Welch burst forward into the D. Her shot was saved by the ‘keeper but Gladstone was on hand to score from the rebound.

Romsey pressed hard for the winner in the last five minutes and Humphreys had a powerful shot from the top of the D that flashed just inches from the post, but the score remained at 1-1.
