Romsey men’s 2nd XI ran out comfortable winners thanks to a clinical performance from the team and a hat trick from Martin Simpson-Scott and rise to 3rd in Snows Hampshire League div 6.

James Boggis opened the scoring with a smart 1st time finish bursting into the D from the wing to meet Simpson-Scott’s neat feed.

Man of the match Simon Morford knocked in the second with neat finish off balance, having picked up the rebound after Jacob Arney’s sharp strike form the right was parried by the home keeper.

Morford was by now finding plenty of space in the centre of the park, and it was his penetrating pass to Carl Hendy in the D which forced the penalty corner from which Romsey garnered a third goal. Morford’s initial strike was cleared straight back to him at the top of the D. Turning onto the back hand Morford had another go only to be denied again. This time the loose ball fell to Hendy who controlled before striking crisply beyond the Eastleigh keeper and into the bottom right corner.

Simpson-Scott bagged his first courtesy of the move of the game. Fed by Dave Andrews just outside the 23, Scott found a deft lay off to Morford. A touch to Hendy and another back to Scott in the D left the home defence chasing shadows and Romsey 4-0 up thanks to a sharp back hand finish.
Moments later Scott danced through the defence to rifle home for a 5-0 half time advantage.

Romsey dominated the second period, but we’re frustrated by an inability to apply the finishing touch from close range, after both Arney and Fergus Longman fired numerous dangerous crosses across the face of goal.

The visitors were able to force a goal to end the angst. Fergus burst once again down the left and fired in yet another cross. The home defence cleared desperately and the loose ball fell to Jim East outside the D. East touched the ball into the circle before hammering the ball high inside the right hand post.

Simpson-Scott completed the Romsey scoring and his hat trick in the dying moments of the match when he rounded his marker and then delightfully chipped the keeper for a comprehensive 7-0 victory.
