The sun shone on Romsey U12 Boys as they faced Bournemouth (2) at HCS.  It was a young Romsey team with three new caps – Toby Hamblin, Chris Blake and Bryn Wathen, all urged on by coach Lewis.

The first period saw end-to-end play, with both teams rewarded.  Romsey started brightly with Harry Croft-Baker charging forward from midfield, supported by Bailey Benham and Elliot Colyer.  Romsey struck first, with Harry firing in a goal off the keepers outstretched hand.  1-0 Romsey.  Bournemouth then pressed forward in numbers, scoring a well worked goal.

The second period saw more end-to-end play, but with the momemtum swinging Romsey’s way with forwards James Fuller and Ben Harris  making a number of penetrating runs towards goal.  Harry scored his second goal of the match to put Romsey 2-1 ahead.  Bournemouth continued to press forward at pace, testing Romsey’s defence.  However Noah Cooper, William Richards, Jack Sluman, Jamie Reid and Toby Hamblin were up to the challenge, restricting Bournemouth to a handful of chances which didn’t trouble Romsey’s keeper Rob Budden.  Romsey continued to launch attacks, and were rewarded when Bryn Wathen shot from close range for a goal on his debut.  3-1 Romsey.  Chris Blake joined the forwards as a target for Romsey’s midfield trio of Harry, Bailey and Elliot.

The third period saw Romsey dominating the play, but with a number of dangerous breaks from Bournemouth as legs began to tire.  Romsey defended valiantly, with Will, Noah, Jack, Jamie and Toby snuffing out most of the attacks.  However, a few got through – one saw keeper Rob throw himself at the ball, with a Romsey stick clearing at the last moment.  Another saw a Bournemouth goal disallowed as the final shot came off the back of the stick.  Romsey were dominant in the final minutes, pinning Bournemouth down at their end, with great interlinking play from the Romsey midfield and forwards.  Bournemouth had one more chance with a break leading to a short corner at the final whistle.  Romsey kept them out to earn their first win of the season.

Final score, Romsey win 3-1 .  A very promising performance which hopefully bodes well for the rest of the season.
