Yateley 1s (3) vs (1) Romsey Ladies 1s

Scorers: Pake

Romsey ladies 1s travelled to Yateley to play their third match of the 2014-15 season.

Romsey started brightly, making several forays into the Yateley D, with Kate Olingschlaeger and Kate Moss making a nucience of themselves around the goal. Yateley looked a little nervous to start with but despite good advances, and a couple of short corners, Romsey couldn’t capitalise.

Yateley began to find their feet, and were quick to break, piling the pressure on their visitors, and winning a few short corners of their own. Romsey’s defence were up to the challenge, and kept Yateley at bay. The home side kept pressing but were continuously denied space in the D by player of the match Jane Palmer.

The first half finished a very even 0-0, with the game very much in the balance.

Yateley were quicker out of the blocks in the second half, breaking quickly and committing lots of players to the attack. Romsey rode it out, with goalkeeper Laura Kemp making several impressive saves.

Romsey mounted attacks of their own, with Jade Phillips finding herself a shooting opportunity from an impossibly tight angle. The shot was powerful, and much to the Yateley keepers surprise, went through her feet and sped past the far post by a whisker.

Yateley gathered some momentum and eventually found the net. Romsey replied quickly, breaking down the right hand side and finding Katie Pake who threw herself at the ball, beating the goalie and getting that all important touch for the equaliser.

In a frantic few minutes, Yateley were back in front, catching Romsey off guard and breaking away. Romsey committed more players forward to look for another equaliser, but it was Yateley who would find the net for the third time.

Overall, Romsey performed well, and despite the end result, can be please with the performance against a strong and well organised side.
