The U8 squad enjoyed their first minis tournament of the season at Winchester.  Playing against teams from Bournemouth, New Forest, Salisbury, Trojans and Winchester, the quality of the hockey played by the young team was high. The first match was against Salisbury A. Toby, Tilly and Phoebe were staunch in defence, repelling numerous attacks.  Our midfield line up of Marcus, Harry and Zoe ensured that the ball was passed up regularly to Harriet and Hattie up front.  The team did well to fend off strong opposition from a more experienced and older side and to only concede one goal.

Romsey were similarly competitive against New Forest A and Trojans B.  Harry and Marcus played brilliantly in midfield creating many opportunities and some good shots at goal.  The team were undone in both matches by goals on the break losing 1/0 to New Forest and 2/0 to Trojans.

The matches against Salisbury B (lost 1/0) and Winchester B (0/0) were closely fought with all the team putting in a solid performance.

Next up was Salisbury B.  Toby was moved up to complete the midline with Marcus and Harry, up front were Millie, Hattie and Tilly and in defence Zoe, Isobel and Phoebe.  The change in positions worked well and from the start of the match much of the play was in the Salisbury half.  Marcus showed his skills carving through the midfield, passing the ball to Harry who skilled his way through the defence earning a long corner.  Marcus played the ball in to Toby who put the ball away with an excellent strike and his first goal for the club.  A reinvigorated Salisbury side went on the counterattack and Tilly did brilliantly to save a shot off the line.  Persistance paid and continued attacking by the Salisbury team resulted in a well-deserved equaliser.

Our final match against Winchester A used the same line up and the team played well together holding Winchester to a 0/0 draw.

Romsey improved in every game and should be very proud of their efforts.  Special mention to Millie, Tilly, Harriet, Hattie, Pheobe and Isobel who were playing their first ever tournament for the Club.  Thanks also to Richard Lake for stepping in to be our match coach.
