Hamble 1s (0) vs (1) Ladies 1s

Scorer: Olingschlaeger

Romsey Ladies 1s XI returned to league action in an early morning match away in Hamble.

Romsey started strongly, piling on lots of pressure on the home side. Within minutes, Romsey had earned their first short corner, following a strong run down the wing from Jade Phillips. The penalty corner was slickly executed, the initial strike was saved by the goal keeper , but deflected towards Phillips who latched on to the rebound, passing across to Kate Olingschlaeger who managed a seemingly impossible shot through a sea of defenders to hit the backboard.

Hamble battled their way back into the match with some well organised defensive presses, making life tricky for Romsey. In the remainder of the first half, Romsey had the majority of the possession, but failed to convert further chances, despite some promising attacks and a few more short corners.

Despite determined words from skipper Erica Jenner, Romsey struggled to retain the advantage surviving a few close calls as Hamble pressed for their equaliser. Keeper Laura Kemp kept Romsey in the lead, with some great saves to keep the home side frustrated.

Romsey held their defensive structure to the final whistle to take the three points, with Becky Hutchins winning player of the match for her tireless work in the middle. Whilst deserving the win, Romsey need to display a bit more quality in future games to make sure of the win.
