A second great performance from Romsey as the came out convincing winners against a strong Gosport Team.
The first period started off with some fine attacking play from Romsey with Jack Sluman on the wing stretching the Gosport defence, Romsey were awarded 2 short corners, but good defence and goalkeeping kept the score nil all.
Gosport’s first meaningful attack led to a two on one with the Romsey keeper Oliver O’Hara standing tall tackling the player and clearing the ball out of the dee.
Romsey was soon ahead after a 3rd short corner led to a goal scored by Jack Sluman, this was followed by some impressive attacking from Thomas Norman who had his first shot saved and his second shot led to another short corner. William Rossdale scored from the short corner and Romsey looked dominant for a period of time, Charlie Westmacott scored a scorching goal with a powerful shot.
The first period ended with Gosport being awarded a short corner after some good attacking play, as the whistle had gone for the last play of the period Gosport were able to fill the dee with all of their players. A scrappy period of play led to a Gosport being awarded a goal through a very congested dee. The first period finished with Romsey leading 3 one.
Romsey started the second period with some fine goals, Charlie Westmacott scored again but this time showing off his skill with a reverse hit, this was followed by Thomas Norman delicately flipping the ball passed the keeper to score his goal.
The game moved quickly, with the majority of possession being fought over in midfield, where William Rossdale put in some good tackles and taking the ball up in attack. Sam Attfield had an impressive debut in midfield, he took the ball up to the dee on a number of occasions and was unlucky not to have scored. The lead was stretched by goals from Jack Sluman and Jack Meehan who performed the best goal celebration with a very impressive one-handed cartwheel.
Gosport attacked with confidence but struggled to find a way through the defence of Romsey. George Coltart, in defence, put in a man of the match performance he was helped by good performances from Jack Jones and Frederick O’Hara who both put in some strong tackles and kept Gosport at bay. The second period ended however with Gosport scoring a second goal, to go into the final period 8 two down.
The third period started with Charlie Westmacott going around the Gosport keeper to score his 5th, this was followed by two goals from Jake Meehan to complete his hat trick. Gosport hit back and scored their third and final goal. The midfield and defence were busy once more with some good tackling from both sides as the game went one way then the other, both teams were tiring but Romsey’s better passing game paid off with 2 quick goals scored by Luke Walter and a final goal from Charlie to seal a convincing win.
