Romsey Boys U12’s continued their winning ways, with a well fought 2 goals to one win over Southampton. The first period was fairly even with play moving end to end, Romsey had the better opportunities, winning 3 short corners but stout Southampton defense prevented them from scoring. At the Romsey end a strong defending from the back 3 of Jack Jones, George Coltart, and Freddie O’Hara prevented Southampton from scoring or being awarded any short corners.
The second period saw a more dominant Romsey break the deadlock when Charlie Westmacott scored with a cheeky flick past the keeper. Will Rosedale was unlucky not to score before Jack Sluman scored the second to capped a joint man of the match performance. Southampton were fortunate not to concede more as Archie Davis, Jack Meehan and Charlie Westmacott all had shots stopped. At the other end, Southampton had their best attack cleared by a brave clearance from the other joint man of the match George Coltart. The second period finished 2 nil to Romsey.
In the third period, Southampton were difficult to break down, they defended very deeply with most of the team behind the ball and only attacked on the break. Romsey’s midfielders Luke Walter, Sam Attfield, Thomas Norman and Will Rossdale, kept the pressure on Southampton before Jack Sluman was unlucky to have a shot stopped. Jack then ran back and managed to clear the ball from Southampton’s break up the field. Romsey’s goalie Oliver O’Hara twice made good saves when Southampton broke and managed a 2 on 1 with the keeper. Southampton eventually scored from their only shot corner of the match to set up a nervy finally few minutes as Romsey managed to hold on for the well-deserved win.
