Romsey U12 Boy’s twice fought back from a goal down to earn an exciting draw against New Forest.

The opening period started well for Romsey with a good period of pressure leading to Owen South forcing a good save from the New Forest keeper.  The game started to move back and fore with both teams piling on the pressure, in goal Oliver O’Hara produced 3 good saves before New Forest finally scored their first goal.

Romsey responded with a good run down the wing from Luke Walter, but the final pass was intercepted by the New Forest defence.

New Forest tried to hit back but were denied first by a superb clearance from Jack Sluman and then by the post of the Romsey goal. The first period finished One nil to the visitors.

The second period started off with New Forest ramping up the pressure, in defence, Archie Davis put in a couple of good saves before Jack Meehan tore down the wing causing problems for the New Forest defence.  This was followed by a good run from Thomas Norman who passed to Sam Attfield who scored his first goal for Romsey.

The celebration was short lived as New Forest hit back straight away with a superb bit of individual skill which led to their second goal.  The pressure continued with New Forest being awarded a short corner after the Romsey keeper took down an attacking player.  The stoic defence of Owen South, Archie Davis, Jack Jones and Will Rossdale meant that the short corner was defended and pressure elevated.  The period finished with the score at two one.

The third period started with a lot of pressure from New Forest who again forced saves from the keeper and defence, with Will Rossdale clearing the ball off the Romsey line.  Romsey started to hit back when Owen South dribbled the ball out of the dee to the halfway line.  Sebastian Wells stretched the New Forest midfield with runs down the wing, before a group of Thomas Norman, Jack Sluman and Sam Attfield broke from midfield to run into the New Forest dee, with Sam scoring his and Romsey’s second.

The remainder of the game was played at a fast pace with both teams trying to seal a win, but the score remained 2 all, and the teams look well balanced for the return match next week.
