Romsey under 16 girls travelled to Fleet & Ewshot on Sunday the 17th of September, their first game of the new season .

Romsey arrived with a strong squad which soon showed as Zoe Henderson scored early on taking the ball past two defenders before a confident finish.

Minutes later Zoe was at it again passing players and putting a cross in for Sophie Lawson to finish with aplomb . It was not long before Bobs Cooper and Hannah Loran got in on the  act scoring convincingly .

After 20 mins Romsey were 5 nil ahead and the defence marshalled by Emily Wann had not given Fleet any attempts on goal.

A further number of  goals followed in the second half including an expertly taken penalty by Sarah McLeod. Fleet had tried to rally and hit the post but solid defending from Antonia Luckhurst , Alex Orak , Emily Procter and Keeper Alice Dyer denied the opposition a goal!

As the game entered the final phase The Romsey midfield were running the show and great passing  from Georgina Scott , Ella Manger , Liz Field and Phoebe Moriarty-Palios got Romsey up the pitch quickly which saw Zoe Henderson, Sarah McLeod, and Sophie Lawson complete their hatricks!

With the clock running down Bobs was back on the pitch determined to get her hatrick which she duly did with a cool finish . Hannah popped in her second goal of the day in after reading play well , and at the final whistle it was a resounding 14-0 win for Romsey .

A fantastic team performance all round , well done girls !

The final tournament for Romsey U10’s was hosted by Andover on a beautifully sunny Sunday morning. With Romsey just fielding one mixed squad for this tournament, the order of play highlighted some tough matches for the team.

The first game against Andover 1’s proved to be a fast paced game with Romsey having the majority of the possession throughout the match. Despite some great passing from Sebastian in midfield, the Romsey attack were unable to find the goal. Some excellent saves by Ellie in goal ensured that the game ended as a 0-0 draw.
The second game against Andover 3’s saw Harriet leading the Romsey attackers higher into the D which paid off with Isobel opening up the score for Romsey, followed by a lovely solo effort by Sebastian. With Romsey leading by 2 goals, Andover managed to claw a goal back, but some great teamwork and a well executed goal by Eva left the final score a well deserved 3-1 to Romsey.
After a couple of rest games, Romsey faced Andover 3’s for a second time in the tournament. Some fantastic tackles from Henry in defence, superb supporting play by Joe in midfield and excellent runs from Phoebe down the wing saw the Romsey team improve on their previous result and finish the game with a 3-0 win, with goals being scored by Phoebe, Isobel and Sebastian.
A change of goalies for Romsey halfway through the tournament saw Joe don the goalkeeping gear against an all boys Trojans side. Always strong opposition, Trojans put a lot of pressure on the Romsey team and despite some well timed tackles by Hattie and Phoebe in defence, the Trojan’s forwards managed to get themselves into good scoring positions twice during the match, giving the Romsey team their one and only defeat of the tournament.
Picking themselves up well after their loss, the Romsey team worked incredibly hard, with some great linking play between Ellie and Sebastian in midfield, moving the ball up to Harriet, Eva and Isobel in attack, enabling Eva to score her second goal of the tournament. Solid defensive work by Hattie, Henry and Phoebe ensured that Winchester were unable to retaliate, and when the Winchester attack did get through the Romsey defense, Joe was able to confidently clear the ball, helping secure a 1-0 win for Romsey.

Romsey’s final game of the tournament, and the season, was against New Forest. From the opening whistle Romsey played textbook attacking hockey, with Isobel poaching the ball from the New Forest team at pushback. Continued pressure throughout the match, and great passing and supportive play by the whole of the Romsey squad, led the team to their greatest win of the day. 2 goals for Eva and 2 for Isobel left both girls with 4 goals each in the tournament, and Romsey enjoying an incredible 4-0 win for their final match. The Under 10’s team came away from the Andover tournament with one of their best overall results of the season and every member of the squad was an absolute credit to the club, their coaches and their parents

Romsey U12 Girls ended their season on a positive note with a well deserved win over Alton at home on Sunday. The visitors were short of players but the girls readily volunteered to take turns playing for them, which made for an evenly matched and friendly game on the warmest day of the year so far.  Alton were quick to attack, putting pressure on the Romsey defence from the start. In an end to end period of play, they took the lead with a well angled strike. Romsey came back strongly however, with Liv W, Katy R and Neve A pushing forwards and creating lots of opportunities, which were saved by some excellent goalkeeping.

The second third saw Romsey continue to attack, but in pushing forward they left themselves open at the back and Alton managed to sneak a second goal, with Romsey being denied numerous times by a solid Alton defence. Then Romsey managed to get a goal back with a goalmouth scramble that Katy R put away. The girls heads came up and they started to believe in themselves more. Some excellent interceptions from Molly and Lily ensured the team kept attacking, while Zara, Evelyn and Olivia Wells all marked well in defence, so that Alton could not often get in the D.

Romsey came out strong in the final third, creating numerous chances. Midfielders Amy, Mia and Phoebee helped to keep up the pressure by making some lovely runs and passing the ball well. Romsey had several short corners in the period, one of which Liv W managed to convert with a well struck shot from the top of the D. With Charlotte R now up front, along with Eleanor, the team kept up the pressure on Alton. On the few occasions that Alton managed to attack, the defence held firm, with Aimee clearing the ball well at sweeper and Anna making some great saves in goal, the team did not concede a single short corner or goal. With continued pressure from the whole team playing attacking hockey, the girls scored their 3rd and winning goal towards the end of the final third through ?. It was a fine performance from the whole team and a great way to end the season.
