100 juniors turned out last Sunday to play some hockey with all age groups mixed in which was super to see, the weather held out and the junior section was able to celebrate the end of a successful season in style at the Cubs new home!
Well done to all players and award recipients and of course to all our wonderful volunteers that make hockey happen!
U16 Girls – Superb in the Sun!
The under 16 girls played Winchester in glorious sunshine on Sunday, with both teams sporting some really strong players the game was played at a high intensity and the first half saw chances at both ends and Ellie in the Romsey goal made some excellent saves.
Romsey were the clinical side and Isla scored from a penalty corner to give Romsey the lead at the break.
The second half saw Romsey strengthen their grip on the game with goals from Harriet and Tilly. Winchester had been a menace all game going forward but excellent defending from Immi, Hannah, Lucy, Eliza and Izzie kept them at bay brilliantly.
Romsey won 3-0 after a superb team performance which takes them to the top of the league. Well done girls!
Players of the match – Immi and Harriet – great performances!
U16 Girls start the new year with WIN!
The U16 girls played Alton on Sunday at Ganger Farm and produced a super performance against a strong Alton team.
Harriet F scored after 5 minutes at the near post as a result of a penalty corner then a few minutes later Zoe P joined in with a smart finish to put Romsey two up!
The second half the girls went up a notch and some of the passing and moving was the best they have played all season. Inevitably the 3rd goal came scored byTilly D.
Alton scored a consolation goal towards the end but Romsey ran out 3-1 winners after a really controlled performance. Well done to all the girls some wonderful play and super team work. The result meant they leap frogged Alton and Petersfield to top their league.
GU16s Win Against Andover
Romsey U16 secured a win against Andover this weekend.
Strong defence and clean work from goalie (Neve R.) held the Andover team back nicely. Some fast paced interceptions gave the Romsey team the upper hand, with some fantastic passing between the players leading to numerous attacks. Romsey kept the pressure on the Andover team and after a succession of short corners the Romsey team (Immi A) opened the scoring, going into half time at 1-0.
Andover scored in the second half, but a number of great offensive plays from the Romsey girls saw the final score at 4-1 with goals from Immi A, Tilly D, Harriet F and Zoe P. All goals of course assisted by their skill full, tenacious team mates.
Special mention to Ellie G who shrugged off her goalie kit and played a great match on field, and a first league match for Charlotte L where she proved herself to be a valuable new team player.

U16 Girls – Dance Off!
Under 16 girls finish the season with a dance off!
The girls had their last training session on Wednesday and there was arguably more dancing than hockey!
The music was flowing and the hockey was fun! A 10-9 match was followed by a penalty competition won by Izzie and then more dancing!
Well done girls, some amazing matches and a great squad of players to coach.
A Mother’s Day of matches!
This Sunday saw 3 junior matches played in glorious sunshine and marking mother’s day with 3 fine results.
First up the u14 girls played Portsmouth away and came back with a 10-1 win which completed their season going 10 games unbeaten and winning their league. Well done Girls!
Back to Romsey for battle of the under 16s , both boys and girls played against Basingstoke and Andover respectively. Both matches were a spectacle that any neutral would have paid to watch! However if a Romsey supporter it was very tense at times and both teams gave their all in their last matches of the season.
There were goals, amazing saves, balls hitting posts and lots of cheering from some amazing supporters. In the end the final score in both games was 2-2
A fitting end to the season for all these teams and hopefully some Mums enjoyed too!
Well done all! 🏑☀️
Soggy U16 Girls in Southampton
The under 16 girls played a well contested match in Southampton this Sunday in very soggy conditions. This did not stop them giving 100% and playing some super hockey that was not always rewarded.
Although Romsey lost 4-1 the match was evenly fought and without their keeper Southampton may have have seen a different result!
Isobel R scored in consecutive games and almost had a second which would have made the last quarter very interesting.
Well done girls and thanks to those playing up, a great effort all round!
Highly deserved win for U16 Girls
The under 16 girls put on a fantastic display to beat Winchester 2-1 on Sunday.
Some brilliant counter attacking hockey saw them create several chances in the first half with one calmly taken by Grace G to give Romsey the lead at half-time.
The girls defended incredibly well throughout the whole game and were able to get a second goal scored by Isobel R after a lovely move to make it 2-0 early in the second half.
Winchester eventually scored in the last minute but it did not take the shine of a fantastic win for the girls. Well done all, a great team effort!
Player of the match – Grace G , a well taken goal and lovely skills.
Under 16 Girls prove tough opposition for Basingstoke
Although the girls lost 2-0 the score line did not tell the full story.
The team with 3 younger girls playing up put on a super battling performance in a match where they could have scored two or three goals themselves with one shot agonisingly grazing the post.
A 0-0 second half ensured Basingstoke got the points but a super effort all-round, well done girls!
Player of the match – Charlotte Akerman
