A super team performance saw the u14 girls come back to win 2-1 with a thrilling last twenty minutes that saw goals from Izzy L and the winner from Zoe P.
Romsey had to be at their best in a tight match but with great individual performances and more importantly a super team performance they won through.
Well done girls a super end to the season!
Players of the match Isla M-W and Harriet F , well done!
Thanks to Elaine Gibson for umpiring this season , brilliant!
The u14 girls had a super first match back post 2nd lock down, a cold crisp but sunny day saw them start very brightly and take the game to Winchester and soon they got their reward with a nicely taken goal from Isla on her debut for the u14s.
Winchester came back well and the rest of the half was far more even and both teams playing well and just before the half Winchester pinched an equaliser.
Romsey came out in the second half and although they had many players playing out of position their teamwork and attitude was first class! They had moved up a gear and the forward and midfield press was too much for Winchester to contain.
Four excellent second half goals followed from Immi x2 , Zoe and Harriet to cap off a fine team display.
A great effort all round girls well done!
Player of the match – Isla , a super debut in midfield.
Mention in dispatches – Isobel L & Hattie K , playing out of usual positions making it look easy! well done.
U14 girls stunned Petersfield with a faultless performance scoring 11 goals and conceding none!
Right from the start they hungry for the ball and did not give their opponents time to dwell ,the goals were shared around the team but there were two hattrick’s one for Imogen Ackerman and one for Rosie Brook.
When Petersfield had their chances Romsey’s defence had remained disciplined and snuffed out any chances and if they got through Ellie was there to save or kick away.
A truly dominant performance which Petersfield had no answer for.
Player of the match -Imogen Ackerman, precise goal scoring!
Junior training has started again this week and so we have taken the opportunity to present the awards for U10, U12, U14 and U16 Girls and Boys. Awards are give to the Player of the Season and to the Most Improved Player in each age group.
Romsey u14 Girls hosted the Isle Of Wight on Sunday 15th of March.
The match was played high intensity and in good spirit by two great teams.
Romsey had the best of the possession with excellent team play and discipline
without the ball. The IOW however were very resilient in defence and frustrated Romsey
for the majority of the match with excellent play.
Romsey stuck to their task though and with ten minutes to go they broke through the IOW
blockade and a super pass from Katie B found the hard working Mia A on the left who broke into the D and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper much to the delight of the team and supporters!
This spurred Romsey on and within minutes Mia was there again to slot home to make it 2-0.
Both teams had given their all and the supporters clapped them both off for a super display.
Players of the match – Katie B super midfield play
– Anna W , decisive defending
Special mention in dispatches – Mia A , great come back from injury!
Romsey U12s&U14 girls had a inter club friendly on the 13th of Feb 2020 .
The two teams , Romsey and Romsey Renegades enjoyed a enthusiastically fought match with full rules and umpires. The Renegades in away strip made a positive start only to see Romsey strike first after ten minutes as a result of a nice passing move.
Renegades had good possession but could not find the final pass, unlike Romsey who were there again to score number two as the first 20 mins drew to a close.
The second 20 saw the Renegades mount on the pressure and get the goal they deserved.
This set up the final 20 , both teams were moving the ball well and and the match was end to end however both defences held firm to give a final score of Romsey 2-1 Romsey Renegades.
Player of the match Romsey- Charlotte Ackerman
Player of the match Romsey Renegades- Clara Fuller
Thanks to all who gave up their time to make the match happen , I think the girls all enjoyed themselves and no doubt slept well, Great effort! 😊
Over 50 members of the junior section and their families were joined by Father Christmas for a morning of fun and games at Romsey School.
7 teams made up of members from all age groups, coaches and parents played a 7 aside round robin tournament.
Hot chocolate and mince pies were served to maintain energy levels and everyone played in fine spirits to ensure that Santa will return on Christmas Eve to fill their stockings!
U 14 Girls played Salisbury away on Sunday the 17th of November on
a cold overcast day.
Romsey was sporting the new junior away kit which they hoped would
bring them luck!
Romsey made a fine start to the match and for the first 10 mins they dominated possession. There were some lovely passing combination moves up front and in midfield Eva A , Rosie B and Isobel R were looking very threatening in attack.
Salisbury were no slouches though and they had some good attacking
players and the Romsey defence had to be on their toes. There was some
great tackling from Harriet F , Charlotte W and Anna W to keep things
level.
Salisbury attacked again and this time a cruel deflection fell
into the path of the Salisbury forward who calmly slotted the ball home. 1-0!
This was against the run of play and Romsey knew they could get back into the match, after a slight formation tweak which pushed Lily JP into midfield and Anna W to centre back Romsey looked much stronger and started to tick.
Charlotte A and Mia A were picking up loose balls and getting Romsey on the attack time and time again. Eva A and Isobel R were starting to get round the sides of the Salisbury defence and on one occasion got a shot away which the keeper got a pad to but not enough to stop Rosie B scoring on the rebound to make it 1-1!
This was turning into an enthralling contest, at the other end Romsey keeper Neve R was forced into gloving away and high looping ball to safety which was just creeping into the top corner otherwise.
As the second half started Romsey intensified the pressure and Katie B and Lily JP were winning tackle after tackle in midfield and setting up Romsey attacks. On one such attack a ball found Eva A on the right of the D, she fired a hit across the D where Isobel R took it under her spell and
created an angle to shoot past the keeper 2-1!
This spurred Salisbury on and with 5 minutes to go they pushed forward and Romsey were under lots of pressure defensively however remained strong with great work; from Ella T, Harriet F and Anna W thwarting more attacks.
In the last minute Salisbury had two successive short corners which bought a great save from Neve R and and great defensive block from Mia A.
Romsey held on though to complete the come back, another great team performance.
U14 Girls played Trojans on Sunday 13th of October on a damp and
over cast morning.
Although with only 10 players and a number of U12s playing up they
battled well and for the first third of the game the possession was 50/50 .
Romsey were moving the ball well in midfield with Katie, Zoe and Eva working
well as a team and threatening in attack on several occasions.
In Defence Harriett , Eliza and Hannah were keeping
things tight at the back and Keeper Neve was using her feet well to block
out Trojan attacks.
Into the second third Romseys confidence grew and forwards,
Isobel and Imogen pressed the Trojans defence to great effect
springing counter attack after counter attack. On one such attack Imogen broke
to the back post to collect a well weighted pass and calmly finish through the
keepers legs 1-0! Romsey.
As the game progressed Trojans upped the pressure and Romsey had
to be resolute , katie dropped back to help the defence to great effect
and Rosanna made a crucial interception in the D after a short corner.
Romsey remained strong and finished the match as worthy winners
1-0.
Player of the match – Katie – a fine midfield performance.
Well done to all girls for a super display and well deserved
victory.
Almost 100 junior members, their families, coaches and managers enjoyed a great celebration of the season on Saturday afternoon at Romsey School.
Everyone, parents included, were divided into team and they played a fun round robin tournament with a few special rules. No one could tackle a mini unless you were a mini yourself and extra points were given to each team by the umpires for sportsmanship at the end of each game.
In the end Rufus’s team pipped Noah’s side to the title and the winners enjoyed a box of chocolates to celebrate!
After the games came the BBQ, chef’s Simeon and Jo Field, Rex and Linda Taylor, Pete O’Hara and Clare Cooper coped brilliantly with demand and much food and drink was consumed. Thank you to everyone else that assisted and those that brought along the cakes.
