L3s, Fearsome Frees – at freezing Farnham

The Fearsome Frees (3s) travelled to a freezing Farnham to play Aldershot & Farnham. The chilly game got off to a flying start with magic Mason, marvellous Morgan, legendary Loran and gifted Gladstone breaking through “Shots” defensive line to have several valiant attempts at a goal.

“Shots” were a well organised side, with a fast forward attack. Romsey defence held strong, supported by clever Cox, magnificent Marino (Junior) and hardy Harding. Harding was responsible for consistently hoofing the ball to the other end of the pitch, which was then expertly picked up by gifted Gladstone, wonderful Woods and magic Mason.  Unfortunately during the first half of the match “Shots” had two lucky goals from an opportunistic player on the back post.

At half time the Fearsome Frees were undeterred and came out fighting with some frenetic intercepts from happnin Herbet, wonderful Wood and legendary Loran – passing to marvellous Morgan on the wing who was able to run the ball towards the “Shots” goal. Mason and Wood had some great play together and gifted Gladstone had several more shots at goal.

Awesome Andrews was player of the match stopping at least another twenty goals from being conceded. Her fearless form saw her batting the ball and running out of goal to kick it clear. Magnificent Marino (Junior) shadowed a player from one side of the pitch to the other frustrating her attempt to get in the D. Clever Cox cleared the ball from the D, ably supported by Harding and Wood.

Although the Fearsome Frees fought hard at full time the score was 6-0 with four goals in quick succession during the 2nd half. Despite this week’s loss– they played with heart, determination and grit…… “To play the game is good, To win is better, But to love the game is best of all” Anon – next week is a new opportunity to be fearsome and fantastic again!

L3s – Win Div 6 with 3 to play

A Game Full of Clichés!

On a sunny Saturday spring (almost) afternoon 15 keen and eager ladies 3’s players arrived at their home ground waiting to face the ‘must win game’ v’s Winchester tigers.  This was going to require 110% from all players if they were to secure the league title that they were hoping for.

It was a game of two halves – with 5 goals in each! The game started well with two Romsey goals within 6 minutes and before the Dads had even arrived on the side-line – including Brad!  Sara’s date with Billy didn’t hamper a number of outstanding midfield phases of play setting up more than one of the goals.

Play continued to very much mimic that demonstrated by the ladies 1’s players (in the 90’s, but slower,as described by the club chair) resulting in attacking phases of play often converting to positive attacks on goal.

The match was dominated by Romsey for the majority of the game, with much of the play being in the attacking half.  The first goal went through two face masks, placed on the goal line (rookie mistake by winch) allowing Emily to score first.

With Winchester realising their mistakes, they put up a brave fight and marked in the defensive phase of play well.  They had a couple of breaks when Romsey appeared to be taking a break and were unfortunate not to convert to their advantage.

Half time arrived and after a stern talking to by Harding, Ella P finally arrived at the party and scored 3 goals in the following 35 minutes.

A well-rehearsed short corner routine allowed captain Cat, the league top scorer, to score the first of two goals – if anything it was struck too well!

Goals also followed from Ruth, Katrina and Verity and some sterling attempts from Tasha (even Morgan got in the D at one point!)

Despite the defence feeling slightly redundant at times Annie was awarded star player for a determined and vocal performance, as Winchester certainly made Romsey work for each and every goal scored.

At the end of a great game Romsey finished the victors with a 10-0 win confident in the knowledge that was enough to secure the league title as well.

110% from all players (even Lauren still a little worse for wear) definitely paid off. Looking forward to the remaining games ladies! For those ladies not mentioned in the report, your 110% didn’t go unnoticed we’ve just run out of words!
