GU14s Triumph on the IoW

IOW 0 – 5 Romsey

Goal scorers:

  1. Ava
  2. Grace
  3. Grace
  4. Ava
  5. Camilla from short corner

It was an excellent match today despite appalling weather in torrential rain.
The score didn’t reflect the good play from the Isle of Wight team.

In the first half there were multiple attempts at goal from Grace and Ava
especially, with good defence from the IOW goalkeeper. Megan also had an
attempt at goal, but narrowly missed. There was lovely play and passing both
up through the centre and down the sidelines from Clara and Caitlin.
By half time, play was in driving rain with even spectators being soaked under
umbrellas.

The second half saw 4 goals. There was excellent attack and defence passes
from Clara up the sideline and attempts at goal by Grace and Elsie. A great
shot at goal from Elsie with Grace just trying to tip it in, again just missed.
There was wonderful defence especially by Imogen and Ané which meant
IOW never really had a chance at scoring.

Grace scored the next 2 goals and then Ava the 4 th goal. On the second
short corner Camilla scored the last goal straight in, after injection by Elsie.

It was a great match to watch, with the girls playing so hard in terrible
weather. Well done everyone!

Fantastic Friendly

On Saturday the men’s 2s and 3s played out a fantastic friendly match at Ganger Farm.

In this evenly contested match, there was some excellent play all round, great goal keeping on both sides and brilliant to see juniors, mens 2s, mens 3s and a few mens 1s all enjoying a good game of hockey.

Henry T opened the scoring for the 3s and it stayed that way until the second half when after a period of pressure, the 2s scored two quick goals in succession and went onto to win the match 2-1.

The teams retired to the Wheatsheaf after to talk the match through and agreed it was enjoyed so much, they would do it again this coming weekend!

Well done all! and big thanks to our umpires Lou and Alice.

Isle of Wight Vs Romsey Ladies 1st XI

It was a 7am meet for Romsey Hockey Club Ladies 1s, in their first match of the season. The ferry over to the Isle of Wight enhanced the team bonding and excitement of finally playing again.

On the pitch, Romsey started strong with their first goal in the 11th minute. The ball was carried up the line by wing back (and captain) Beeching, to Adams, who passed it from the goal line into the D. I Ackerman picked up the ball and fired it forcefully into the back of the goal. Not bad for I Ackerman’s debut match!

The second goal followed 6 minutes later when a short corner was won by Romsey. Olingschlaeger ejected to C Jones (Vice captain), who took a straight strike from the top of the D, direct into the right-hand corner.

RHC were feeling energised by a 0-2 lead, but Isle of Wight fought back and were awarded a P-flick shortly after. Goalkeeper Reilly stood tall and dominant in the goal causing Isle of Wight to send the ball over the goal.

Isle of Wight made a fast break and hit a reverse shot from the top of the D. It was a great goal making the score 1-2.  Romsey had lots of possession and great runs, with Jenner and Lewis controlling the middle of the pitch.

As Romsey were tiring, Isle of Wight were awarded a short corner, which enabled them to equalise before half time, 2-2.

Half time allowed Romsey to regroup and return to the pitch with vigour. Within the first few minutes we were in Isle of Wights D and C Ackerman was unlucky not to get a goal from her quick thinking, attacking play. Humphreys worked the ball round the D and C Jones (player of the match) scored her second goal of the game, to bring the game to 2-3.

Isle of Wight were awarded several short corners, but the defence were fantastic with an amazing block tackle from Dixon, the speed of J Jones and leadership by CollinsBraund was moving off the ball throughout to ensure a pass was always on.

Romsey held the lead to win the first game of the season.

Manager Cooper was proud of the whole team and they are of him. RHC Ladies 1s are looking forward to their first home match at Ganger Farm at 10:30am on Saturday 1st October.

BU14s First Match of the 2022 Season

U14 Boys first match of the season!

The U14 boys played their first match of the season at Ganger farm against a very strong Salisbury team and although they lost, they played some super hockey and the u12s who played up did not look out of place at all.

There were some super performances all round and for a lot of the lads it was their first match on a full pitch so even more to be positive about.

Well done lads , great match!

Minis’ First Tournament of 2022/23 Season

This weekend saw the U8s and U10s first tournament of the season.

With 2x U8s and 3x U10s teams entered from Romsey, it really shows just how our little town club is thriving.

One under 8s team didn’t lose a game, with 2 draws and 3 wins. Some excellent play by Ted, a save off the line by Louis, super running by Matilda, great defending by Arlo, Sally and Fraser. All 8 goals scored by Elijah who clearly demonstrated his experience today.

We have a lot of new U8s to tournaments this weekend so it was great to see so many smiling children despite the pouring rain!

Debut Friendly at Ganger Farm!

The under 12 boys 1s and 2s played a friendly against Basingstoke A & B, their first on the new home pitch at Ganger Farm.

Great to be back playing hockey on a sunny Sunday afternoon.  Fantastic goals by Zach (too many to recall how many!), and Stanley and runs down the wing by Jake, resulted in all wins for the Romsey 1s.

Romsey 2s battled hard against some fast-paced Basingstoke players. Luca scored some super goals and William played well in goal, saving numerous goals.

All in all, great to be back playing hockey and the boys are looking forward to their first league match next week.

U16 Girls – Dance Off!

Under 16 girls finish the season with a dance off!

The girls had their last training session on Wednesday and there was arguably more dancing than hockey!

The music was flowing and the hockey was fun! A 10-9 match was followed by a penalty competition won by Izzie and then more dancing!

Well done girls, some amazing matches and a great squad of players to coach.

Under 14 & 12 girls celebrate leagues wins!

The girls had their last training session on Wednesday and celebrated their super season with a match against each other.

Some super hockey which the under 14 girls just edged then swiftly followed up with a pen flick competition with Ellie v all the girls! Great fun and Ellie pipped the girls by saving 9 and only conceding 7.

Amazing season girls! Well done all 🏆
