This Sunday saw 3 junior matches played in glorious sunshine and marking mother’s day with 3 fine results.
First up the u14 girls played Portsmouth away and came back with a 10-1 win which completed their season going 10 games unbeaten and winning their league. Well done Girls!
Back to Romsey for battle of the under 16s , both boys and girls played against Basingstoke and Andover respectively. Both matches were a spectacle that any neutral would have paid to watch! However if a Romsey supporter it was very tense at times and both teams gave their all in their last matches of the season.
There were goals, amazing saves, balls hitting posts and lots of cheering from some amazing supporters. In the end the final score in both games was 2-2
A fitting end to the season for all these teams and hopefully some Mums enjoyed too!
Well done all! 🏑☀️
Under 14 Girls Ease to a Strong Win
The under 14 girls dominated their game against Portsmouth as suspected but Portsmouth played hard to the very end and their inexperienced young team appreciated minutes on the pitch to help in their development.
The Portsmouth keeper had a super game winning player of match and although the final score was Romsey 14 v 0 Portsmouth , she made numerous fine saves.
Romsey shared the goals about and played some lovely pass and move hockey with even the keeper Ellie having a run out on pitch in the second half.
This extends the girls run to 9 unbeaten games and their last match of the season to come next week. Well done girls , well played all!
Under 12 Girls impress at home
The under 12 girls had a super morning of hockey against Basingstoke winning all their matches in some lovely sunshine.
The girls worked brilliantly supporting each other and moved the ball with great efficiency creating lots of chances on goal and as a result scoring 19 goals over 4 games whilst only conceding 4.
Well done girls, well deserved and super to watch!
U12 Boys battle in Basingstoke
Today we took u12 boys to Basingstoke for the last games of the season. Missing 9 of our squad, we still managed to take 8 players, including Wlliam our u10s GK.
James made his debut and what an enthusiastic start to his hockey playing! 3 games today, we took a while to wake up, loosing to Basingstoke A 9-0.
The boys were lacking a bit of oomph so a talking to and a promise of scoring set them on their way to win the next game against Basingstoke B. With goals from Henry (with a sonic speed run up the right wing) and Noah in the first half, we were 2-0 up! At half time, I suggested they should up the ante to 3 goals and they certainly delivered. Goals from Noah, and 2 from Luca, ending 5-0 win.
Last up were Trojans, still excited from finding the back of the net, Noah opened the score sheet in the first minute…a cracking goal in front of Romsey supporters, who heard the crash of the backboard and knew he meant business! Sadly, we then went to sleep. Noah managed to score once more but the game ended 2-5 loss.
Well done boys, a hard day out in the sunshine with all boys rotating around all positions!
U10s away in Southampton
We took 2 teams to Southampton u10s today.
Below was Romsey B team, a successful day out, winning 3, drew 1 and lost 2 games. Tommy, Hamish, Imogen and Noah all on the score sheet. Well done to Ruby for her debut hockey match. Special mention for Reuben who was absolutely brilliant today working his socks off in defence!
In2 Hockey success!
Well done to all our In2 hockey teams over the last two weekends, the under 10 and under 12 boys and girls battled it out at Basingstoke hockey club along with all the other Hampshire clubs in a seven aside tournament with goal keepers and full hockey rules.
The teams were amazing with a lot of the players new to hockey and this format, all teams won at least one match and gained great experience of tournament hockey which they can use in the future.
The under 12 girls did exceptionally well and got through to the semi finals and agonisingly lost on penalty flicks but won the 3rd/4th play off to claim the bronze medal! Well done girls amazing!
Thanks again to all our coaches and parents who spent many hours at the tournament and preparing before hand , well done all!
U14 Girls win their League!
The under 14 girls played out a nail biting game against Havant on Sunday and kept the crowd waiting until the very end after coming back from a 2-1 deficit in the last 10 minutes to score twice and win the match 3-2 and secure the league title!
The girls have had an amazing season and still remain unbeaten and have faced every challenge head on giving 100% in every game with all members of the squad playing their part over 6 months.
Truly well done girls a very well deserved title and still two more games to enjoy!
Under 16 Boys Outclass Andover!
The under 16 boys started the new year with a solid win against Andover despite going behind after ten minutes.
The lads rolled their sleeves up and took the game to the opposition and turned a deficit into a 3-1 half time lead.
They continued the second half in the same manner and scored quickly to extend their lead.
The final scored finished 5-2 to Romsey.
The boys gave everything and deserved the win, a great team performance which outclassed the opposition and currently puts them top of their league.
Well done boys!

L1s share 9 goals with Hamble
Romsey Ladies 1s played away at Hamble in a 9 goal thriller!
Hamble took an early lead, but Romsey responded with an excellent counterattack using their pace to score in the 7th minute with a goal from Olingschlaeger, assisted by Player of the Match: Jenner.
Soon after, Jenner passed to Olingschlaeger, who took it round two defenders before having a shot on goal. Hamble’s goalkeeper made a great save but Williams was quick to respond with a rebound shot and scored at an acute angle. A perfect finish, which gave Romsey a 1-2 lead.
Jenner scored Romsey’s third goal, from a rebound shot from Olingschlaeger, who turned over the ball from a Hamble free hit. Romsey’s defensive unit made some great tackles but, Hamble came back to score. Romsey were winning 2-3 at the half time break.
In the second half, Hamble scored 2 early goals to take a 4-3 lead. With the fight still on and Romsey determined to take home 3 points the whole team dug deep and continued with their attacking play. Not to be beaten, Romsey took a 4-5 lead after scoring two goals in close succession.
Katie R scored her first goal for Romsey Ladies 1s managing to get on the end of a hit from Drake. Romsey won a short corner, which Jenner scored from a straight strike. Jenner’s rarely seen goal celebration showed how much a win meant to Romsey.
Hamble kept on the attack but Romsey’s defence held strong despite multiple short corners being awarded to Hamble in the dying minutes of the game.
Today was a triumphant win for Romsey, a fantastic team performance.
A Super Sunny Sunday for u12 boys
The under 12 boys played two matches this Sunday in glorious sunshine, the first match was a tough game against Bournemouth’s top team and a loss of 7-3 was a little harsh, the Bournemouth keeper made some fine saves.
The second match however was a win against Basingstoke A 3-2 and a great team performance. In both matches the boys displayed some super skills and a possible goal of the season contender from Zach W that has the crowd applauding loudly!
Well done boys , and good luck next week at the in2 hockey tournament.
